When a respected scientist is found murdered inside a secure research facility, Detective Mara Calehart expects evidence, suspects, and a motive. What she does not expect are messages apparently sent by the victim after his death.
The deeper Mara and her partner investigate, the more impossible the case becomes. Locked systems activate without explanation. Confidential files point toward a classified experiment known only as N-9. Recordings suggest that Cormund may have discovered a way for human consciousness to survive beyond physical death.
Someone is hiding the truth.
Someone is manipulating the investigation.
And something inside the system appears to know what Mara will do before she does it.
As the evidence leads through experimental technology, personal desperation, and secrets buried inside the police investigation itself, Mara must determine whether the dead scientist created an elaborate deception—or whether his final experiment actually succeeded.
Because Dr. Cormund may not be gone.
And whatever is answering from the other side of the screen may not intend to remain there.
