About Don Alter
Welcome to Macomb Paranormal Investigations and Research, where authentic criminal investigation, suspenseful storytelling, and the mysteries of the unknown come together.
I’m Don Alter, a retired police officer, former private insurance homicide investigator, paranormal researcher, and author. For more than 25 years, I worked in law enforcement and private investigations, gaining firsthand experience with criminal behavior, homicide cases, evidence, witness interviews, and investigative procedures. That experience gave me a practical understanding of how police investigations unfold, how criminals think, and how investigators separate truth from deception.
I also hold a degree in behavioral medicine, specializing in deviant behavior and criminology. I am currently completing my PhD studies in metaphysics and parapsychology, furthering my exploration of human consciousness, unexplained phenomena, and the possibility that consciousness may continue after physical death.
My interest in the paranormal began long before my professional career. I grew up in a house where unexplained activity was part of everyday life. Those experiences sparked a lifelong curiosity about hauntings, spirits, consciousness, and life after death. Rather than simply accepting every unusual event as paranormal, I learned to examine the evidence, consider logical explanations, and remain open to possibilities that conventional science may not yet fully understand.
As the founder of Macomb Paranormal Investigations and Research, I apply traditional investigative methods to paranormal cases. My approach combines observation, historical research, witness interviews, modern investigative equipment, and careful evidence review. The goal is not to sensationalize the paranormal, but to investigate it honestly and responsibly.
I bring this same combination of experience, education, and curiosity to my murder mystery novels. My books blend realistic police procedures and criminal psychology with suspense, psychological tension, and disturbing paranormal events. Stories such as The N-9 Protocol and The Preparation Room place investigators in cases where the evidence may point toward a human killer, something supernatural—or both.
Through my books, paranormal investigations, videos, events, and community discussions, I invite others to explore the uncertain boundary between reality and the unknown. These are stories and investigations designed to raise difficult questions, challenge familiar beliefs, and remain with you long after the final page is turned.
